The Kvadrat Flagship Store in New York City marks the company’s first retail presence in New York City —a project led in close collaboration with designer Jonathan Olivares. While the final result is a work of architectural clarity and restraint, defined by precise detailing and understated elegance, the path to completion was anything but simple. 

Our first site visit took place in 2019, with construction beginning shortly after. But the world shifted quickly. The project paused during the George Floyd protests, which brought the city to a standstill for several weeks. Then, in March 2020, the site was shut down entirely as COVID‑19 swept through New York. 

Throughout these disruptions, progress continued in the only way it could: remotely. Working closely with Jonathan Olivares, we refined every detail during months of Zoom meetings. His rigorous attention to proportion, materiality, and color set a clear design direction, and the collaboration remained both disciplined and deeply rewarding. 

Despite the challenges, the store officially opened in May 2022 as a beautifully crafted environment—a quiet, confident space that reflects Kvadrat’s design values and Jonathan’s thoughtful leadership. The result is a masterfully executed interior where simplicity, precision, and craftsmanship come together seamlessly.
