Our client purchased a 500-square-foot apartment in Medellín’s emerging Ciudad del Río district and faced the reality of urban micro-living: how do you fit a full life into minimal square footage without constant compromise?
The challenge: create distinct living zones—bedroom, living room, work area—in a space where traditional room divisions would make everything feel cramped and claustrophobic.
Our solution was transformable space with permanent identity. Rather than a studio that always looks like a bedroom or always feels like an office, we designed an open layout that shifts function throughout the day while maintaining spatial clarity. The living room by day becomes a bedroom by night, but each configuration feels intentional and complete, not temporary. A living green wall on the terrace extends the sense of space outward while bringing Medellín’s lush landscape character into the home.
The result: 500 square feet that lives like much more. The client gained the flexibility small space living requires without the visual chaos that typically comes with it—proof that micro-apartments can feel spacious when designed with intention.
