Upper West Side Apartment 29

Set in the heart of Morningside Heights at Columbia University, this residence was envisioned as a refined yet vibrant backdrop for a family with a deep appreciation for color, texture, and contemporary living. The design centered on creating a modern, cohesive environment where daily life could unfold naturally and beautifully.

At the core of the project is a dynamic central space anchored by the kitchen—a true hub of activity. From this point, the plan radiates outward to a cozy den, an inviting breakfast nook, a formal dining area, and an open living room. Each space is distinct yet seamlessly connected, supporting both family interaction and moments of quiet retreat.

Lighting played a decisive role in shaping the atmosphere. We developed a signature approach for this and other Columbia University residential projects: clean, uninterrupted ceilings paired with ambient, integrated illumination. This lighting strategy enhances the architecture without drawing attention to itself—providing just the right level of brightness for comfort, clarity, and effortless daily use.

The result is a home that celebrates modernity with warmth—balanced, expressive, and thoughtfully crafted for the rhythms of family life.
