Columbia University continued their partnership with Domoarchitecture for the complete renovation of a 1,700-square-foot senior faculty apartment, applying the design standards and construction processes we’ve refined across their residential portfolio.
The challenge: maximize livability within a compact footprint while maintaining the level of finish quality Columbia’s senior faculty expect. Every square foot needed to work efficiently without feeling cramped or compromising on the sophistication required to attract top academic talent.
Our approach focused on strategic space planning and built-in solutions. Thoughtful furniture layouts, custom storage, and careful circulation paths ensure the apartment lives larger than its footprint suggests. Finish selections balance durability for long-term university ownership with the refined aesthetic faculty members want in their homes.
The result: a residence that demonstrates efficient design doesn’t mean sacrificing quality. Columbia gained another apartment that meets their dual mandate—attracting distinguished faculty while delivering long-term value as a university asset.
