Set within the serene picturesque scenery of the Catskill Mountains, we crafted a single-family retreat that aims to bridge modern comfort with a keen connection and appreciation for the natural world. In accordance with our environmental values, the house is entirely off-grid; it collects it’s energy from rooftop solar panels and water from an on-site well. It is also a forerunner for smart home technology allowing all electrical features to be remotely controlled.
The design for the house originates from a simple and precise overlapping of two cubes. The main cube, oriented east-west, effectively shields the home and patio from northern winds; this section contains the entertainment and common areas. Intersecting this, the second cube runs north to south and houses the private quarters.
The private areas encompass inviting bedrooms, sleek bathrooms, and practical work-from-home spaces. The entertainment area is a true centerpiece, with a glazed wall opening to the south, offering stunning views and direct access to a lap pool. The intersection of these cubes creates a garden space that seamlessly blends indoor and outdoor living.
This retreat is not merely a residence; it is a sophisticated blend of comfort, sustainability, and natural beauty.
